Papa is Spanish for tuber, but in prison it’s a pie made with mashed french fries, hot water, pressed cheese, sazon, and sometimes dried beans.
Land Use Mystery
Under the terms of the Stanford Habitat Conservation Plan, implemented in 2010, university biologists are working to monitor and improve the habitats of threatened species that inhabit Stanford land. The biologists conducted annual monitors and studied the possibility of creating wetlands favored by the endangered California red-footed frog, which lives on Matadero Creek. In doing so, they found debris that was clearly the result of previous human use of the site. This discovery prompted Jones and his associates to investigate the history of the area.
They first turned to the Stanford Geological Survey, which dates back to the 1890s and identified geological formations, including several long-disused university quarries in the foothills of the range. One of these quarries now houses the “graveyard” where the university keeps pieces of sandstone salvaged from campus for later reuse.
