How PREVENTS Initiative aims at suicide of Veterans
Nearly 20 veterans die by suicide every day and between 2008 and 2016 more than 6,000 veterans took their own lives resulting in more than 54,000 deaths. In the face of such shocking statistics, the federal government is now acting.
An executive order signed by President Donald Trump aims to curb veteran suicides by establishing a Cabinet-level task force led by VA Secretary Robert Wilkie to oversee suicide prevention efforts across government will streamline. The initiative tasked with creating a national plan to reduce veteran suicides is called the President’s Roadmap to Empowering Veterans and Ending a National Suicide Tragedy, or PREVENTS Initiative.
The AFH: Family Home for Adults
A Family Home for Adults (AFH) is like a community center where your parents could share dining and living space and receive care, treatment and services above this level of Room and board, but the AFH is much smaller. It has no more than four residents, none of whom are related to the person who runs the home.
And at AFH, dad was able to receive up to seven hours a week of expert care in addition to 24-hour care and support.
Nursing homes
Nursing homes should help older people with chronic illnesses to cope with their everyday lives. Older adults who require constant care and are cared for by qualified nurses and caregivers. There are 342 nursing homes in Wisconsin, and costs depend on the health of the elderly residents or the progression of their chronic illnesses. Nursing homes are the most expensive form of housing, but families with chronically ill seniors should definitely opt for them. Installations average $247 per day, slightly more than the US average of $228 per day. A private room averages $9,429, while a semi-private room costs $8,684 per month.
The FoodShare program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), helps seniors gain access to the foods they need to thrive in their communities. FoodShare was founded to eliminate hunger among low-income seniors and improve nutrition and health among them. The program provides monthly benefits to eligible seniors, including retirees and the disabled, disabled seniors, low-income seniors, and those who meet residency and citizenship requirements. Through this program, low-income seniors gain access to nutritional benefits, education and training in preparing healthy meals and maintaining nutrition. Benefits are granted on EBT cards, which program participants use like ATM cards to purchase the groceries they need from participating vendors or grocery stores.
