Charleston S.C. In recent years the infrastructure has undergone a major overhaul, with each area enjoying a touch of development. Charleston is also called the “Holy City” because there are more than 400 churches. It’s known for its unique cobblestone streets and pathways, world-class restaurants, historical sites and beautiful beaches.
Charleston highlights include the Ravenel Bridge, Angel Oak Tree, Fort Sumter, Antebellum Mansions and the Morris Lighthouse. The Ravenel Bridge (also known as the Arthur Ravenel Bridge) has eight lanes and two diamond-shaped pylons that allow sea freighters to enter the port.
Appreciate a Preserved City
It may not come as a surprise that Charleston received another award, taking first 10 place for Historical Preservation. The city is proud to have the oldest preservation community group, the Preservation Society of Charleston. In 1931, Charleston was the first city in the United States to establish an architectural review board. When in the Holy City you will notice a unique and historic style of architecture and a love of preserving every single part of the city’s history.
Charleston has perfect weather all year round. Although winter can be a little chilly by local standards, temperatures generally do not dip below the 50s mark, with the exception of the very rare blizzard blowing from the south. But if you avoid the harsh winters, the city can get pretty hot in midsummer. Luckily there are so many beaches and pools to cool off. And even in winter, you can enjoy outdoor activities without having to fight the brutal cold.
