Downtown Charleston
You can’t call Charleston home until you discover the heart of downtown Charleston. Handcrafted iron gates and 19th-century buildings blend well with more recent architecture. Those looking for an urban setting will enjoy the walkable neighborhoods and metropolitan vibe. Here’s our guide to downtown Charleston neighborhoods
As the foodie capital of the South, you have some of the finest culinary creations right at your fingertips. Historic sites, parks and museums offer educational and recreational opportunities. There is always something going on downtown.
Risk for female tourists and solo female travelers
Most parts of Charleston are suitable for female solo travelers during the day. However, walking alone late at night is not recommended. It is also better not to spend too much time in bars. If you go alone without worry, be very careful.
Fires, floods, storms, thunderstorms, wind gusts, and earthquakes pose threats to the Charleston area. When visiting this area, remember to avoid storm season. There is a strictly defined hurricane season that affects everyone in the area so check the weather before you book!

My favorite place in Fira. Great sunset cocktails and great views of the caldera. Simple drinks after sunset and half price happy hour after 9pm when the small dance floor fills up.
4. KOO Club – Fira
The best club in Santorini. DJs, house and mainstream music, packed indoor dance floor. The relaxing outdoor terrace has 3 bars.
5. Kira Thira Jazz Bar – Fira
The oldest bar in Santorini. Cozy and informal with fantastic sangria and strong mixed drinks.
6. Marykay’s Bar aka Hassapiko Bar – Oia
The only real bar in Oia. Regularly host DJs and dance on their small dance floor. Open almost 24 hours a day.
7. MoMix Santorini – Fira
A mad mixologist’s laboratory with cocktails served in test tubes, edible or sparkling.

The best cocktails in Oia. Also Mediterranean-inspired dishes and an extensive wine list.

Beach Club with excellent cocktails and lots of vegan and vegetarian food. Relaxed atmosphere during the day but at night it’s the best spot for the beach party with live music several nights a week during high season.
11. Two Brothers Bar – Fira
For the night this is the wildest bar in Santorini: crowded, crazy and fun.
12. Enigma Club – Fira
The oldest dance club in Santorini with famous DJs playing Greek and international electronic music.
13. Buddha Bar Beach – Imerovigli
Luxurious cocktail bar, restaurant and shisha lounge with spectacular sunset views over Skaros Rock, the Caldera and the Fira Oia hiking trail. Expensive but wonderful.
14. Franco’s Café Pyrgos • Franco’s Bar Fira
Two romantic bars with stunning sunset views, classical music, great cocktails and light snacks. Franco’s Fira is the original location with sweeping views of the caldera; Franco’s Pyrgos (pictured) is the newer of the two, with panoramic views of the entire island.
15. Volkan on the Rocks – Firostefani
Great beer hall with stunning views and an outdoor cinema after sunset.
16. White Door Theatro – Fira
Not a bar but an incredibly fun evening show about a Greek family wedding. There is singing, dancing and a simple story is told. The guests feel part of the wedding party. There are delicious sandwiches (I call it dinner, but some people want something more afterwards) and plenty of wine. Incredible fun. It ends around 10:30 p.m. m., making it a perfect start to a night out. Book tickets in advance.
